Trnava Poster Triennial (TPT) 2009 was a public, non-anonymous contest of world poster held since 1991 under the auspices of the International Council of Graphic Design Associations Icograda. The main organizers were the Ján Koniarek Gallery in Trnava and the Trnava Self-governing Region. Its co-organizers are the Slovak Design Center in Bratislava, the City of Trnava, the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava and the team of curators.
There were three competitive categories in TPT 2009:
A1 Poster – professional authors – individuals and teams
A2 Poster – students of fine arts and design academies
B Design of websites
Art works had been judged by an international jury consisting of experts on graphic design.

Organizers of the 7th year of the TPT utilized the event´s seventeen years reputation endorsing traditional values respected by international graphic design community and at the same time they bring innovations reflecting the continuously changing character of graphic design. The new category, B Design of websites, employed the principles of spreading information both in public and virtual space. It adopts and expands the attributes and potentials of poster. Confrontation of the both media enlightened the current characteristics of each of them, as well as their mutual relation.
The main part of the international Trnava Poster Triennial 2009 was composed of the exhibitions in Kopplova vila of the Ján Koniarek Gallery in Trnava, in Synagogue – the Center of Contemporary Art of the Ján Koniarek Gallery in Trnava exhibiting the categories – A1 Poster – professional authors – individuals and teams, B Design of websites and A2 Poster – students of fine arts and design academies.
West Slovakian Museum at Trnava shall present the exhibition of category A2 Poster – students of fine arts and design academies.
TPT 2009 and its main exhibitions were opened on 21 October at 6 p.m. in the Synagogue – Center of Contemporary Art of the Ján Koniarek Gallery in Trnava, Halenárska 2.
The exhibition was open till 20 December 2009.
The exhibition of category A2 Poster – students of fine arts and design academies held in the West Slovakian Museum was opened till 14 January 2010.
As a part of TPT 2009 there were a number of collateral events and activities, smaller exhibitions, lectures and workshops held at the same time also in other Slovak towns.
