TPT 2015 First round – results

During days 19 to 27 May, we held the first round of evaluation of works submitted to an international poster competition TPT 2015.

The International Jury selected into the final 370 posters from the 3564 submissions with the help of online evaluation application.

All registered authors will be personally informed by email in the coming days.

Complete list of finalists can be found in the List of posters accepted to the final.

Posters of finalists will be exhibited from September 2, 2015 In the Gallery of Jan Koniarek in Trnava, reproduced in the official catalog and will be included in a poster collection of GJK. Finalists will also compete for the prizes.

TPT 2012 international jury is composed of the significant graphic design professionals. They are experienced designers, educators and promoters of many forms of visual communication. Most of them are devoted to the poster and their work in this field received high international credit.

Iva Babaja – official website

Born in Zagreb, Croatia, Iva studied at the Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst in Vienna. She has worked extensively as a photographer, art director and freelance designer for major advertising agencies, publishers and cultural institutions.

Iva is the founder and president of the Association for Promotion of Visual Culture and Communications (VIZUM) and has worked extensively on the organisation and execution of ZGRAF and other international exhibitions and projects. She is a member of Croatian Designers Society (HDD), Association of Artists of Applied Arts (ULUPUH), and Art Directors Club New York, and is currently the Creative Director at Havas WW Zagreb agency in Zagreb. Her work has been included in exhibitions and publications both in Croatia and abroad.

In her previous terms as ico-D Vice President and Secretary General, Iva has advocated for Membership and Professional Practice issues, with a focus on spec work and best practices. Today she is the President of ico-D Executive Board.

ico-D is a non-governmental international voice for design.

Born in Finland in 1945. Graduated in ´67 from the School of Industrial Arts in Helsinki.

Founded his own studio in´87. Specialized in illustration and poster design. Taught graphic design at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki ´89 –´97 (Aalto University). Guest Professor at Tama Art University in Tokyo since ´04. Honorary Professor, Communication University of China.

Kari Piippo has been a jury member in many national and international competitions of graphic design. Exhibitions, lectures and workshops around the world. Solo exhibitions e.g. in GGG and DDD Gallery in Japan, USA, Germany, Turkey, Hungary and Ukraine.

His major Finnish awards include Pro Finlandia Medal, The State Industrial Arts Award and Graphic Artist of the Year. In Best Finnish Graphic Design competition Platinum Award and four Gold Awards, several Best Finnish Poster Prizes.

International awards include e.g. Gold in Mexico International Poster Biennial ´90 and 2006, Icograda Excellence Award in Chaumont´90 and in Warsaw Poster Biennale 2010, Silver from Lahti IPB´91, 1st Prize in Rzeszow ITPB ´93, 1st Prize in Colorado CIIPE´99, Grand Prix Ecoplakat Triennial, Slovakia 2000 and Grand Prix in Trnava Poster Triennial 2012, Slovakia.

Julo Nagy is a designer, graphic artist, painter and photographer. He led the studio at the Department of Visual Communication at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava and was the chairman of the Association of Illustrators ASIL.

His own company Calder Design Community has successfully and professionally implemented important projects of visual communication.

He does many complex corporate and product identities. Examples include Zlatý Bažant, Artforum, cafe Thalmeiner and Nedbalka Gallery. He collaborated with successful slovak company ESET, which has established itself on a global scale.

Julo Nagy is given to graphics and book design, in his free time paints and takes photographs.

Karel Míšek – AUG Design – czech language

He studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague under the prof. Frantisek Muzika, then in Warsaw under prof. Henryk Tomaszewski. His main interests are art of posters, book design and graphic design. In this disciplines he got PhD. Today he is the Head of the department of visual communication and graphic design studio at the Faculty of Applied Art and Design at UJEP University in Ústí nad Labem.

His main works he made for the National Theatre, Czech Philharmony and Albatros publishers. He is the author of many logos, posters, books and complex realizations. He exhibited in more than 100 exhibitions and biennials worldwide. In international competitions won a number of awards, the Grand Prix and gold medals and as professional juror contributed to their organization. TPT 1994 awarded him for his work in the poster design with the Master’s Eye Award.

Currently he is still actively teaching, lecturing, conducting workshops in different countries and organizing international Virtual Biennale Prague. He is the chairman of the Gestor, copyright organization and AUG Design, which is active in design exhibitions and education.

His works are in the permanent collections of museums and galleries in Poland, France, Finland, Germany, Mexico and the United States.

Fons Hickmann m23 is located in a leafy courtyard building in the middle of Berlin-Kreuzberg, at Mariannenplatz. Just a stone’s throw away is Bethanien, the subject of Rio Reiser’s Rauch-Haus-Song and a symbol of social change after 1968. Fons Hickmann is renowned around the world, and has had a strong influence on the international design scene for many years now. Its works appear at all the major design festivals – they have won multiple awards, and are collectors’ objects for museums.

The design studio focuses on the design of complex communication systems and is working mainly in the cultural field, arts institutions, publishers, and NGOs. Its clients normally seek out m23 to work especially with them.

The studio also participates in exhibitions. In 2011 it developed the object series “Hybrids” for the Curious Minds exhibition in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, followed by individual exhibitions in Teheran, Ljubljana.

In 2012 the Triennale Trnava honoured Fons Hickmann with the Master’s Eye Award for his work.

Currently its works are on display in New York, Moscow, Shanghai, and São Paulo. Fons Hickmann is also a university instructor. After seven years at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, he now has a professorship at the University of the Arts in Berlin. These days he is devoting more time to publishing professional literature on photography, media theory, graphic design and football.

Trnava Poster Triennial 2015 is a non-anonymous international competitive exhibition of posters issued (created) between July 1, 2012 and February 28, 2015.

Poster exhibition period:
September 3, 2015 – November 29, 2015

Main organizer:
Trnava Self-governing Region and Jan Koniarek Gallery in Trnava

Slovak Design Centre in Bratislava, Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, City of Trnava, POSTER – civic association, PUBLIKUM.SK – civic association, the Western Slovakia Museum in Trnava.

The event is held under the patronage of the International Council of Graphic Design Associations ICOGRADA, Governor of Trnava Self-Governing Region.

Competitive categories:
TPT 2015 includes two contest categories with six subcategories: A1, A2, A3, and B1, B2, B3.

Authors classify their works into respective categories themselves. The organizer reserves the right to reclassify a work into
a different category /in case of mistake or misunderstanding/.

[a] Professional – individuals and teams
[b] Student – fine arts academic students aged 18 and up

[1] Advertising Poster – designed for promotion and support of sales or services
[2] Sociocultural Poster: culturally, socially, or politically motivated poster
[3] Freestyle Category: personal or experimental poster

International jury:
Consists of five renowned international experts in graphic design, including the winner of the Grand Prix 2012, the holder of the Master’s Eye Award, and a representative of ICOGRADA.

Multiple prizes conferred – a single author or a work may be awarded various prizes.

Winners of the main awards shall receive official TPT trophies and diplomas. Winners of the Grand Prix and Master’s Eye Award are entitled to become jurors of TPT 2018.

Winners of other awards shall receive prizes according to the organizers.

Finalists shall receive a certification of attendance declaring their attendance in the finals.

Awards handover
Awarding of prizes and publishing of results in print media will take place within 30 days of the completion of the jury’s work. Awarded authors shall be informed in writing and invited to the award ceremony.

Finalists’ works will be reproduced in the official TPT 2015 catalogue. Awarded works will be published
in an appendix to the TPT 2015 catalogue.

Exhibited works will become the property of the Jan Koniarek Gallery in Trnava and be included in the TPT poster collection.
